Privacy policy

Last updated: November 2026

Lam Legal Group ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and disclose it, and how you can access or correct it or raise a concern. It applies alongside the confidentiality and legal professional privilege that protects our clients' information.

What personal information we collect

Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:

  • Your name, contact details, and the nature of your enquiry, when you call, email or use our contact form.
  • Details about your matter, such as charges, court dates, and the circumstances involved, where you become a client.
  • Information about other people connected with a matter, such as co-accused, witnesses, or character referees, where relevant to a client's case.
  • Billing and identification information required to act for you, including under Legal Aid NSW funding where it applies.

We act across criminal defence, drug offences, traffic law, civil litigation, so the detail we collect varies by matter. We only ask for what is relevant to advising you or running your case.

How we collect it

Usually directly from you, by phone, email, our contact form, or in person. We may also collect information from other sources connected with your matter, such as the police, the courts, Legal Aid NSW, or other parties to a case, where that is a normal part of running it.

Why we collect and use it

We collect and use personal information to:

  • respond to your enquiry and assess whether we can act for you;
  • provide legal advice and representation, including preparing and running your matter;
  • communicate with you, the courts, and other parties involved in your matter;
  • administer our practice, including billing, file management and professional obligations; and
  • meet our legal and regulatory obligations as a law practice.

Who we disclose it to

Depending on your matter, we may need to disclose information to:

  • courts, tribunals, police and prosecuting authorities;
  • barristers, expert witnesses, and other professionals engaged on your matter;
  • Legal Aid NSW, where your matter involves a grant of aid;
  • our service providers, such as our email and website hosting providers, who help us run our practice; and
  • anyone else you authorise us to disclose it to.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not disclose it for marketing by other businesses.

Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers, such as the provider we use to send email, may store or process information on servers located outside Australia. We only use providers that are required to protect personal information to a standard consistent with Australian privacy law.

Technology and AI-assisted tools

We use software with artificial intelligence features to help prepare and review documents and correspondence in client matters, as well as to help build and maintain this website. AI tools may assist with drafting, research and administrative tasks, but a solicitor reviews all AI-assisted work and is responsible for all legal advice we give.

Our website

This website does not use cookies or analytics, and does not track visitors. If you submit our contact form, that information is used only to respond to your enquiry, as described above.

Dealing with us anonymously

You can make a general enquiry without identifying yourself. However, we need to know who you are to act for you, check for conflicts of interest, and meet our professional obligations as your lawyer.

How we hold and protect your information

We take reasonable steps to keep personal information secure, including by controlling access to physical and electronic files. We generally retain client files for the period required by our professional obligations as NSW solicitors, after which they are securely destroyed or deleted.

Access and correction

You can ask us for access to personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by contacting us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time, though access to information about an active matter may be limited where it would affect legal professional privilege or another person's rights.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version, with its last-updated date, is always available on this page.
